Production Manager (The Other Room Bursary Placement)

“The bursary will enable me to step up in my career of becoming a Production Manager and to develop and learn new skills.”

Carys-Haf will become The Other Room’s first Production Manager, developing her skills in a Cardiff venue that celebrates Welsh theatre.

About The Other Room

MGCfutures is partnering with The Other Room to create a 12-month placement as the venue’s first in-house Technical and Production Manager. The role will be mentored by the theatre’s Artistic Director, Dan Jones – himself a previous MGCfutures bursary recipient – and Nia Thompson, Production Manager for National Theatre Wales. The successful applicant will also receive additional mentoring support from MGCfutures.

Right in the urban heart of Wales, The Other Room is Cardiff’s first and only dedicated pub theatre. Established in 2014, The Other Room has become a fixture of the Welsh theatre ecology. It is a small space where visionary artists have the freedom to take big risks; where distinctive and challenging theatre like nothing else in the Welsh capital is presented; and, where new Welsh plays go toe-to-toe with the most revered modern drama. The Other Room is an intimate theatre of 47 seats (for now) that brings audiences back to the live experience with an intensity no other venue in Wales offers. It is an inclusive theatre where Wales’ identity as a bilingual nation is cherished and is evolving.

In 2024, The Other Room will be relocating to a new alternative theatre space – still in Cardiff City Centre. Their host organisation Porter’s has signed a 20-year lease on their new premise, and The Other Room have conducted a feasibility study to convert the basement unit of this new premises into a dedicated theatre.
