Claire Willoughby
Theatre Maker | 2016 Bursary
The bursary enabled Claire to buy essential equipment (underwater speakers) for her new piece – Sink or Swim – a fully immersive piece for under 5s! Claire was in residency at Platform in Glasgow, working with the Play Café (a group of under 5’s and their guardians from the local area, many with mixed needs and abilities). This piece supported Claire’s next steps as a theatre maker, enabling her to tour her work internationally.
Since receiving the bursary…
“I am a theatre maker, performer and musician based in Glasgow. I am particularly interested in cross form collaboration, play and sensory exploration. I was a Jerwood Fellow with Oily Cart and Imaginate from 2020 – 2022 – a funded research opportunity to explore making work for disabled young audiences. I have co-founded Snap-Elastic – an artist led collective that make multidisciplinary live performance. We have created a dance-theatre show about consent and cannibalism called EAT ME, a YouTube series starring my alter ego Veronika Velvette (commissioned by the National Theatre of Scotland) and a music/clown show called Puffin for young audiences, that toured all over Scotland.”
“I am currently working on a new music piece called Dussskk, made for neurodivergent teenagers about transformation, power and freedom. Dussskk will feature 5 singers and is a fully immersive sensory experience where the audience can move around freely with the performers.”
