Oscar Toeman

Director | 2017 Bursary

Oscar’s bursary allowed him to evolve and build his craft and international relationships through attendance and participation on the Lincoln Centre Director’s Lab in New York.

Since receiving a bursary…

“I was fortunate to immediately benefit from the relationships made through my bursary funded trip to Lincoln Centre in 2017. Whilst there, I was asked to Associate Direct on their production of Oslo when it transferred to the National Theatre; and then later to move it to the West End. I have since worked as a director, with a particular highlight being directing The Sugar Syndrome by Lucy Prebble (Orange Tree, 2020), having been awarded the JMK Runner Up award in 2019. I returned to the Orange Tree in 2022 with a new play, The Misfortune of the English by Pamela Carter.”

“I am now the Baylis Associate Director at the Old Vic 2024-5, and can perceive a direct connection between those relationships, skills and understanding I gained through my MGCfutures funded bursary in 2017 and my new role now.”
