Quang Kien Van
Choreographer | 2018 Bursary
Quang’s bursary went towards workshopping a new dance piece inspired by Yvonne Rainer’s 1965 No Manifesto.
Quang Kien Van: I wish I’d known…
Since receiving the bursary…
“Since 2018, I’ve continued to develop my career as a choreographer and movement director making work for organisations such as Royal Court Theatre, Theatre by The Lake and Central School of Speech and Drama as well as teaching and choreographing at Mountview and creating very personal pieces for QKV Projects. During lockdown, when live theatre and performances were shut down, I pivoted into film-making experiments and wrote, directed and choreographed Triptych, which went on to win Best Art Film (London International Monthly Film festival), Best Short Epic (Cult Movies) and Honourable Mention: Director (Los Angeles Film Festival).”
“I very recently premiered BABYLON, my latest dance-gig-theatre performance spectacle at The Albany in Deptford, as an associate artist, for a 3-night run on the venue’s main stage. BABYLON was sparked to life through an MGCfutures Bursary in 2018 and without that initial catalyst may never have come into being.”
